Brown, a versatile junior forward, has missed the team’s last nine games and is out indefinitely due to a lower body injury.

“I’m hopeful,” Fennelly said.

Brown’s return would be a giant boost for the Cyclones, who recently endured a five-game losing streak. Iowa State has bounced back, winning five straight.

Brown's absence has made things more challenging for Fennelly's team. The 6-foot-2 star was averaging 13.1 points, 9 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game before she was shut down.

Earlier this season, Brown tallied the school’s first triple-double in more than a decade. She’s been a starter since her freshman season.

“She’s starting to do a little bit more,” Fennelly said. “I will say, we’re making progress. But it’s not going to happen this week, for sure. But she’s definitely in a better place.”

Fennelly added that Brown is doing some physical activity, and the team’s staff then evaluates her the next day to see how she’s doing.

“I think it’s gone from indefinitely to more, not day-to-day but it’s definitely better than it was,” Fennelly said.
