The Minnesota Vikings have targets for their QB room

Sometimes, where there is smoke, there is fire. Things don't need to be overcomplicated; they don't need to be discussed further; they just are what they are. And then, sometimes, there is a situation like the Vikings quarterback position that can't be that simple or lack complexity.

And why? Because in 2026, the quarterback market is more fluid than ever, and the team needs to sort it out as they look to navigate what is likely to be a very unique season. The team seems to be working their way out of being committed to J.J. McCarthy, and of course, a new day brings on a new talking point to this whole disaster the team finds themselves in.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert did a spot on SportsCenter and discussed the state of the team's quarterback search. Within it, he said, “Kyler Murray is right at or near the top at the (Vikings) list… He’s not the only QB they consider in the top tier. If Geno Smith were to become available… (Smith's) another QB the Vikings would consider strongly.”

If the team wants to lean on either one of them, it could signal there is still hope for McCarthy to prove himself. Geno Smith did not show much in 2025, as a result, the Raiders now findthemselves with the top pick in the draft. The same goes for the Cardinals, as they benched Murray while earning the third pick in the draft.
Of course, the Kevin O'Connell angle to this all allows for renewed hope to be applied but time will tell on the quarterback front for the Vikings, as always.
