The Minnesota Vikings are on the lookout for a veteran quarterback this offseason after the struggles of J.J. McCarthy in 2025.

McCarthy's first full season did not go as planned and he was the biggest reason the Vikings missed the playoffs. Now, his job is in jeopardy with Minnesota expected to bring in a veteran who could take his job.
And that veteran appears to be soon-to-be former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
According to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Vikings are expected to sign Murray once he becomes available in free agency.
"Kyler Murray was discussed [by the New York Jets], but he is expected to sign with the Vikings, per sources," Hughes reported.
Reports suggest Murray has been informed by the team that he will be released, although that hasn't officially happened yet. The expectation is Murray's release will come by the start of the new league year on March 11.
Murray's struggles in Arizona were well-documented. Not only has his play not been up to snuff in recent years, he has also battled injuries.
But he is still a two-time Pro Bowler who has proven he is an above-average quarterback, at worst, and he could certainly win the job over McCarthy.
Murray is also just 28 years old, so he could prove to be a long-term solution if he pans out. After what we've seen head coach Kevin O'Connell do with Sam Darnold, it's conceivable that could happen for Murray in Minnesota.
As far as compensation is concerned, it is believed Murray will come cheap on a veteran's minimum deal, which is huge because the Vikings won't have a ton of salary cap space.
A lot can change between now and the start of free agency, so don't go writing Murray's name in pen for the Vikings just yet.
But it certainly seems a pairing of Murray and the Vikings is going to happen, and that could also spell the end of McCarthy's time in Minnesota.
