Tyler Reddick, who entered this race with a 70-point lead in the championship standings, was attempting to become the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2007 to win four consecutive races at the Cup level. He ultimately finished eighth in a good showing, but not nearly enough to keep his win streak alive.
Alex Bowman, who entered this race last among full-time drivers, did not take part as he was suffering from vertigo. Anthony Alfredo drove the #48, ensuring Hendrick Motorsports still got owner points while Bowman gains no driver points.
Ryan Blaney won the race and collected a lot of stage points, which vaulted him up to second place in the standings. He is 60 points back of Reddick.
