Detroit Lions contract details emerge for new TE Tyler Conklin

The Detroit Lionsinked tight end Tyler Conklin on Friday of last week, adding a measure of insurance as star tight end Sam LaPorta works back from a back surgery.

Conklin, a former Vikings, Jets and Chargers tight end, will be 31 years old entering this season and brings veteran experience to the Lions. The 6-foot-3, 248-pound tight end has played in 127 career NFL regular-season games, starting 69 of them.
Now, he joins a group of tight ends headlined by LaPorta and Brock Wright.
On Tuesday, Conklin's contract details with the Lions emerged. Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Conklin will earn a base salary of $1.3 million and has a cap hit of $1.075 million. Both Over The Cap and Spotrac show those same contractual figures for Conklin.

Conklin caught just seven passes for for 101 yards last season with the Chargers. But, from 2021-24 with the Vikings and Jets, Conklin reeled in 61, 58, 61 and 51 receptions for 2,215 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In his career, Conklin has totaled 270 receptions for 2,645 yards and 11 touchdowns. Conklin's most productive statistical season came with the Jets in 2023 when he caught 61 passes for 621 yards.
