Last season, Melissa set a new high school national record for most home runs in a season by hitting 122 in 39 games. That's an average of 3.1 per game.
The nation's eighth-ranked team isn't quite on that same pace this year, but it has 53 home runs through the first 22 games for an average of 2.4 per game after Oklahoma pledge Finlee Williams, Auburn pledge Amariee "Shug" Bradford, Ana Gonzales and Rihanna Wheeler homered in Tuesday's 13-5 win over Prosper Walnut Grove. Arkansas pledge Hutton "LuLu" Adrian leads Melissa (20-2) with 12 home runs and has hit 10 in the last eight games.
All-state third baseman Kennedy Bradley set a new Dallas-area season record by hitting 24 home runs last year, and the Florida signee has 11 homers so far in 2026. Williams has also hit 11 home runs and already has three multi-homer games.
Melissa has won 73 of its last 76 games after finishing 38-1 last season. Melissa is trying to become the first team to ever win three consecutive state championships in one of the UIL's top two classifications after it won the 5A title in 2024 and then won the 5A Division I championship last season in the first year of the UIL's split-division playoff format.
Arizona pledge Eloisa Maes pitched four scoreless innings and Bradford and Gonzales were both 2-for-3 with three RBIs as Melissa extended its winning streak to 15 games by beating a Walnut Grove team that was a 5A Division I regional semifinalist in 2025. Melissa has outscored the opposition 145-20 during the streak, including Saturday's 4-1 win over Waco Midway, ranked No. 11 in the nation.
