Parts of Tshwane to experience 29-hour water shutdown this weekend

Residents in parts of Tshwane will face a planned water shutdown lasting more than a day, as the city carries out upgrades at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant.

The City of Tshwane said supply will be interrupted from 06:00 on Saturday, 28 March, until 11:00 on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
The shutdown is expected to last 29 hours.
Tshwane water shutdown: Areas affected
The outage will affect several areas in Region 7, including:
- Bronkhorstspruit town and surrounding suburbs
- Ekandustria
- Ekangala
- Rethabiseng
- Zithobeni
- Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply)

The city said the work will involve installing inlet and outlet bulk meters to improve the efficiency and reliability of the water supply system.
“The City of Tshwane wishes to inform customers supplied by the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant about a planned shutdown of water supply,” the notice reads.
The municipality has apologised for the inconvenience and confirmed that roaming water tankers will be deployed to assist affected communities.
Residents are also urged to report issues such as burst pipes, leaking meters or blocked sewers during the shutdown.
