The Miami Marlins began their season on Friday, March 27th, against the Colorado Rockies in Miami. While the Rockies are one of the worst teams in the league, the Marlins winning 2-1 is still a good way to begin the season.

Sandy Alcantara looked good, Javier Sanoja had three hits, and Pete Fairbanks got a save in his Marlins debut. All things considered, it was a good 2026 season debut for Miami. But things might be getting a bit more exciting already.

According to Kevin Barral of Fish on First, the Marlins are reportedly calling up top infield prospect Deyvison De Los Santos just one game into the regular season.

Marlins reportedly call up top infield prospect

"The Miami Marlins are calling up Deyvison De Los Santos, per source, #Marlins @FirstOnFirst," Barral reports.

This is a very interesting move if it does come to fruition, as the Marlins would be calling up a top prospect who's just 22 years old for his debut in the Majors one game into the season.

De Los Santos played one game in Triple-A this season, and he had a 1.850 OPS thanks to going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBIs, two runs scored, one walk, and no strikeouts.

Back in 2024, between stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system and the Marlins Triple-A affiliate after the A.J. Puk trade, De Los Santos hit 40 home runs with a .294 batting average and a .914 OPS in 137 minor league games.

But, in 2025, across 110 games, he struggled a bit, hitting .240 with a .672 OPS. Those struggles made for realistic concerns, but there's plenty of optimism for the infielder.

This spring for Miami, he hit .286 with a .619 OPS in 14 at-bats. It's nothing to write home about, but the Marlins must-have seen enough to warrant bringing him up if this report from Barrel comes true.

De Los Santos might be in the Majors after just one game this season. While this report isn't confirmed yet, this rumor is worth keeping in mind as the Marlins could be getting aggressive with their 22-year-old prospect this season.
