Milton teens charged in carjackings; Camouflage cameras used to scout break-and-enters

Two Milton teens have been charged following a trio of carjackings in Milton and Burlington.

On March 27 starting at around 3:50 p.m., two masked males approached the driver of a vehicle in the Derry Rd.-Farmstead Dr. area of Milton, Halton Regional Police said Monday.

The driver was forcibly removed from the vehicle and the males fled in the stolen vehicle towards Burlington.

Over the next hour, cops said two additional carjackings were committed in nearby Burlington — the first in the Britannia Rd.-Walkers Line area around 4:40 p.m. and the second one minutes later in the Cedar Springs Rd.-Britannia Rd. area.

Police located one suspect at the scene of the first Burlington carjacking and located the second suspect later that same evening.

All three drivers were forcibly removed from their vehicles with one man sustained serious injuries.

No weapons were seen or used and all three stolen vehicles have been recovered.

The first 17-year-old boy was charged with robbery, theft of motor vehicle with violence, and disguise with intent.

A second 17-year-old boy was charged with three counts each of robbery, theft of motor vehicle with violence, and disguise with intent, as well as one count dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The accused can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

York cops warning of break-and-enter scouting

York Regional Police are warning residents after a pair of recent incidents in which cameras were used to scout residences before residential break-and-enters.

Two incidents were reported in Vaughan after cameras and battery packs were found on residential properties, disguised with camouflage. The cameras were hidden near trees and bushes on the properties.

Cops said a review of the footage revealed that the devices were placed to record homeowners’ routines, allowing suspects to scout the properties before committing the break-and-enters.

Info sought after Georgina shooting

Cops in York Region are asking for the public’s help following a shooting at a home in Georgina.

On Sunday just before 5 a.m., York Regional Police officers responded to a weapons call on Larch Lane in the area of Hwy. 48 and Cronsberry Rd.

Officers found a house and a vehicle damaged as a result of gunfire, which was determined to have happened at 2:10 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.

No suspect or suspect vehicle information is available.

Investigators believe the house was the intended target of the shooting, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Seven commercial robberies in York Region

York Regional Police are looking for witnesses following seven recent commercial robberies.

On Monday just after midnight, officers responded to a robbery at a gas station in the Bur Oak Ave.-McCowan Rd. area in Markham.

Police said a male suspect entered the gas station, made threats and demanded cash before fleeing the scene with money.

There were no reported injuries.

Investigators are also looking into six additional commercial robberies across the region involving a suspect matching the same description:

— March 24 around 11:30 a.m. at a money loan business in the Yonge St.-Major Mackenzie Dr. area of Richmond Hill.

— March 25 around 7:25 a.m. at a gas station in the Woodbine Ave.-Yorktech Dr. area of Markham.

— March 25 around 7:50 a.m. at a gas station in the 16th Ave.-Ninth Line area of Markham.

— March 28 around 7:15 p.m. at a gas station in the area of Hwy. 50 and Langstaff Rd. in Markham.

— March 29 around 8:15 p.m. at a gas station in the Steeles Ave.-Dufferin St. area of Vaughan; and .

— March 30 around 2:25 a.m. at a gas station in the Major Mackenze Dr.-McCowan Rd. area of Markham.

The male suspect is described as 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was seen wearing a grey tuque, dark shirt with a black long sleeve underneath, black pants, black gloves, and grey footwear. He also appeared to be using a white shirt as a mask.

These locations of these incidents are in areas with heavy foot and vehicle traffic. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen something suspicious, or to anyone with dashcam to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or contact Crime Stoppers.
