Bayern Munich dominated Real Madrid but only managed a 1-2 victory in the first leg of the UCL quarter finals. Vincent Kompany’s side showed great quality on the pitch and were the better side. VK does have areas to address before the second leg in Munich. While Bayern could have scored more with some better shooting, Harry Kane is happy with the overall result of the game.
In an interview with Football on TNT, Harry Kane recalled the hype around the high profile fixture and the magnitude of the challenge as he summarized the game. Interviewer: Harry, well done. 2-1 on the night. You must be absolutely delighted because this is a tough place to come.
Harry Kane: Absolutely. Obviously we knew before the game all the hype around it — coming to Madrid and the Bernabéu and trying to get a result was always a difficult thing to do. But I thought we played some really good stuff today. For sure there are areas we could have done even better as well — maybe with the final ball or the final finish. We had some good chances there. But credit to them, they did as well. Manny made some really good saves. So overall we can be really happy with the win and we take this into next week.
The #goatkeeper Manuel Neuer turned up huge on an important night. Making 9 saves, Neuer kept Los Blancos at just one goal. His heroics prevented Bayern from succumbing to fast paced counterattacks from the opposition. Aside from that, he was at his sweeper keeper best, giving Bayern the 12th man on the pitch on several occasions. His presence was crucial in outplaying Real and he will have a crucial role to play in the return leg.
