Conor Benn’s relationship with Eddie Hearn has come under strain in recent months.

The British boxer made headlines after agreeing a reported $15 million deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.

Hearn, who had promoted Benn throughout his rise, has since been openly critical of the move. Their close professional bond did not prevent ‘The Destroyer’ from switching to a rival promotion.

The fallout has been widely discussed in boxing circles. It has also raised questions about loyalty, business decisions and the growing influence of new players in the sport.

Speaking at the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov press conference, ahead of the event where he is set to face Regis Prograis, Benn addressed the situation directly. His response struck a notably emotional tone.

“Ultimately, I love Eddie. Period. Point blank. Irrelevant of what’s been said, irrelevant of all the noise, irrelevant of the back and forth, I’m not here for that. I’m not here for the noise.” Benn began by saying (via Fight Hub TV).

“It comes with maturity, it comes with age. You know, I’ve done what’s best for me and my family. I’ve secured my family’s future. That for me is more important than anything else on the planet and any man can respect that.”

‘The Destroyer’ continued: “Ultimately, I’ve got love for the man and, God willing, when this is all said and done, we can sit down and have a chat together. My door’s open.

“You know, I have no ill feelings towards Eddie, Matchroom and Barry. I’ve got love for the whole team. I’ve got love for the family but ultimately, this is about securing my family’s legacy, solidifying my legacy and making sure my kids’ kids go to private school.”

Benn has repeatedly framed his move as a financial decision. The deal with Zuffa Boxing appears to represent a significant step in securing long-term stability for his family.

The switch also carries broader implications. While it strengthens Zuffa’s position in boxing, it has added to ongoing debate around fighter pay and dissatisfaction within the UFC, as Dana White shows different behaviour while negotiating in each of his promotions.
