General Manager of NFR Conducts a Comprehensive Safety Inspection from Katihar to New Jalpaiguri

The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted a comprehensive safety inspection drive from Katihar to New Jalpaiguri recently, covering a wide range of operational and infrastructural aspects. During the onward journey, the General Manager undertook rigorous inspections of critical railway assets in the Katihar-Dandkhora and Mukuria-Barsoi sections. These included examination of level crossings, track geometry, gang working, curves, major bridges and Switch Expansion Joints to ensure adherence to safety standards. A detailed inspection of Dalkhola station, point machinery and level crossing infrastructure was also carried out. The inspection drive included a speed trial between Dalkhola and New Jalpaiguri at 110 kmph to evaluate track quality, ride comfort and overall operational readiness of the section.

The inspection also covered multiple initiatives related to staff welfare. At Katihar, several improvements were reviewed including enhanced healthcare facilities at the Divisional Railway Hospital, where an upgraded Physiotherapy Centre and advanced dental facilities are now available for railway employees and their dependents. Interactions with representatives of recognised unions and associations were also held, reflecting the administration’s continued commitment to staff engagement and welfare. Additionally, several other initiatives such as improvements to the Railway Institute, Community Hall and Staff Canteen were undertaken to enhance the quality of life and working environment for railway personnel. The Training Room and Model Room at the New Pit Line were also reviewed, aimed at strengthening technical training and capacity building for staff. The General Manager also carried out a detailed inspection of the Crew Lobby to assess passenger amenities and working conditions.
As part of promoting sports and recreational activities, developments at Katihar included a renovated basketball court at KROC/Katihar and the proposal for a new Cricket Pavilion, marking a significant step towards encouraging sports among railway personnel and local enthusiasts. The visit to the 109 Acre Eco Park also highlighted efforts towards environmental sustainability and recreational infrastructure. In addition, several other initiatives like the commissioning of an 1111 kWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant at Katihar Junction reaffirmed NFR’s commitment towards renewable energy and sustainable development.
The inspection concluded with the arrival at New Jalpaiguri, marking the successful completion of an intensive and well-coordinated programme. The General Manager expressed satisfaction over the progress of developmental works and emphasized the need for continuous focus on safety, maintenance and passenger-centric services. The visit reinforced Northeast Frontier Railway’s commitment towards modernization, infrastructure development and ensuring a safe and efficient railway network for passengers and freight operations alike.
