Uelmen is transferring to Northern Iowa after his breakout redshirt freshman season at UND.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard led the Fighting Hawks in scoring this year, averaging 16.8 points per game. Uelmen's 587 points are the most by a freshman in a single season in program history.
Uelmen took another step in the Summit League tournament. He scored 41 points against Denver to set a tournament freshman single-game scoring record and averaged 31 points per game in the Hawks' run to the championship game.
Northern Iowa finished with a 23-13 overall record in 2025-26. The Panthers won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament to make the NCAA tournament, where they lost to St. John's in the first round.
UNI has made the NCAA tournament four times since 2010.
Uelmen was one of nine UND men's basketball players who entered the transfer portal this offseason.
Some have transferred to other mid-major programs, while others are taking the Division II route.
Freshman guard Anthony Smith III and junior forward George Natsvlishvili are both transferring to Winthrop.
The duo both had strong showings when the Hawks beat the Eagles 90-88 on Dec. 18: Smith scored 20 points off the bench, while Natsvlishvili scored 14 as a starter.
Sophomore guard Wylee Delorme announced his commitment to Jamestown after one season at UND. The Jimmies made the move up to Division II last season.
Redshirt sophomore Matthew Bothun is heading to Kentucky Wesleyan College, a Division II program.
Freshmen forwards Micah Curtis and Marley Curtis, redshirt sophomore forward/center Ryan Erikson and redshirt sophomore Anthony Doppler all have yet to publicly announce their next destination.
The only Hawks on the 2025-26 roster currently slated to return next season are redshirt sophomore guard Zach Kraft, freshman forward Karson Ouse and junior center Josh Jones.
UND has already added five players from the transfer portal as it rebuilds the roster: Tyler Wagner, Jayden Thomas, Daemon Ely, Zack Parks and Luke Winkel.
The Hawks also have three incoming freshmen in Jayden Moore, Carter Evanson and Sage Hanson.
Between the returning players, the transfers and the incoming freshmen, UND has four open spots remaining on the roster.
