Virginia Tech's 2027 class vaults into top 15 amid hot streak

· Yahoo Sports

Virginia Tech is one of the most fascinating programs in college football in 2026 after bringing in former Penn State coach James Franklin, and the early returns are certainly promising.

The Hokies added their 11th commitment in the 2027 class on Friday as three-star Baltimore safety Elijah Butler — a top 10 player in the state of Maryland — announced his commitment. Butler becomes VT's third commitment in the month of May and seventh since April 23.

With this recent hot streak, the Hokies' 2027 class now ranks inside the top 15 at No. 14 nationally, per the 247Sports composite. It's also the No. 3-ranked class in the ACC at the moment.

The class currently features just three blue-chip commitments, and only one of those players — Owings Mills, Maryland, defensive lineman Joseph Buchanan — ranks inside the top 250 nationally.

Still, it's a solid start as Franklin has been handed a massive increase in investment into the program as he looks to turn around a Hokies team that hasn't won more than seven games since 2019.
