The Philadelphia Flyers’ improbable playoff has come to an end following a 4-0 series sweep by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2nd Round.

After a 4-2 series win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers were dealt a difficult hand, playing the Hurricanes in the 2nd round. The Hurricanes proved to be the far better team from the start. Expectations were not high in Round 2, nor were they in Round 1. They continued to beat the expectations.

Their playoff run should not be remembered by how it ended. Instead, the 2025-26 Flyers should be remembered for how they got there. That’s the reaction the Flyers got from the fanbase on Saturday.

Flyers fans rally behind the team

“I think it’s amazing. I really want to thank the fans for that,” said Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet after Saturday’s heartbreaking loss. As the team consoled Dan Vladar after Jackson Blake’s overtime winner, cheers began to shower the team.

Cheers turned to a united “Let’s go Flyers” chant that echoed through Xfinity Mobile Arena. From the sound of it, you’d think they’d have just won the game. In a moment where you could see the heartbreak for the players, their city had their back.

“That was awesome for them to cheer us and the let’s go Flyers stuff, you know, that puts us on the map a little bit,” said Tocchet, who said he spoke about that with the team’s President of Hockey Operations, Keith Jones.

“I mean, goose bumps,” said goalie Dan Vladar. “They’ve been having our back since the beginning of the season. I’m sorry we weren’t able to deliver more hockey for them.” Vladar said that crowds like that are one of the reasons he wanted to come to Philadelphia. “It’s another big reason why I want to come here to be a Flyer. I know how tight this city can be, and I’m so glad I got to experience it. Obviously, I’m hungry for more.”

“It’s nice to have the support of our fans, the city,” said Flyers captain Sean Couturier. “It’s been fun to play here this year. You know, the last couple of years, actually, through the down years, they were behind us. It feels good to have the support, and I think it helped us along the way for sure.”

Philadelphia, stand up. That is how you rally behind a team.
