R Ashwin calls Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 'supernatural' after blazing 93 against LSG
Ravichandran Ashwin lavished praise on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi following his sensational 93-run knock against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener tore into the Lucknow bowling attack in a manner that left most speechless, including Ashwin, who eventually reached for a metaphor that was, frankly, the only one that seemed to fit.
Area 51 is a classified United States Air Force facility in the Nevada desert that has, for decades, been the centre of conspiracy theories about alien life and extraterrestrial activity. The site became a cultural reference point for anything mysterious, inexplicable or beyond human understanding.
When Ashwin wrote on social media that the debate around alien existence at Area 51 could finally be put to rest, thanks to Sooryavanshi's innings, he was not wrong. It was the only framework that made any sense after watching a 15-year-old hit ten sixes against a full international bowling attack while chasing 221.
Ashwin wrote: "Area 51 has a lot of mystery associated to extra terrestrial existence. Let’s put an end to that debate, there is one super natural person living amongst us earthlings & he opens the batting for Rajasthan Royals and is on duty now at Jaipur. It’s also on Live TV.#vaibhavsooryavanshi."

Sooryavanshi puts in a flawless performance against LSG
Sooryavanshi reached his fifty off just 23 deliveries before eventually being dismissed by Mohsin Khan for 93 off 38 balls, caught at long-on by Abdul Samad.
He narrowly missed what would have been his third IPL hundred, but the manner of his dismissal, trying to clear the boundary off a cleverly disguised slower ball, was the only blemish on an otherwise breathtaking performance.
After the knock, Sooryavanshi moved to 579 runs from 13 matches in IPL 2026 at an average of 44.54, overtaking Mitchell Marsh's tally of 563 to claim the Orange Cap. His strike rate of 236.33 is the best of any batter in the competition this season.

The Cricket News Opinion: The kid is not just good, he is rewriting history
At 15, Sooryavanshi is outscoring seasoned internationals, setting new benchmarks for six-hitting and carrying a franchise's playoff hopes on his narrow shoulders.
This is not just a promising youngster showing flashes; this is a generational talent operating at full power in the world's hardest cricket environment.

Ashwin called him supernatural, and on the evidence of the last few weeks, that is not hyperbole.
