Wrexham striker wants Premier League promotion play-off replayed amid 'Spygate' scandal

The play-off for the final promotion spot in the Premier League has been rocked with an unprecedented spying scandal, and it's gotten to the point where one player wants the play-off restarted from the beginning.

Southampton was supposed to take on Hull City in Saturday's promotion play-off final at Wembley Stadium. But an independent panel expelled Southampton from the play-off after a club employee was caught filming Middlesbrough's training session just before the semifinal.

On top of that, Southampton admitted to filming an opponent's training on multiple occasions throughout the regular season. Having just missed out on making the play-off, Wrexham could make an argument that it is deserving of a spot in the play-off since the cheating wasn't isolated to the play-off.

At least Wrexham striker Josh Windass seems to think so.

Windass posted on Instagram to question why the play-off wasn't being restarted. With Southampton disqualified, he'd like to see Wrexham face third-place Millwall in the two-leg semifinal. Middlesbrough would face Hull.

The actual decision, though, was to send Middlesbrough to face Hull in Saturday's final at Wembley. Hull is reportedly trying to make a legal claim for automatic promotion to the Premier League since the team had been preparing to face Southampton.

We'll have to see how the whole ordeal plays out as hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake with Premier League promotion. But Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds hasn't seemed too concerned about a play-off restart.

He trolled Southampton instead.
