49ers DE injured in shooting mum on potential training camp return

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White suffered a gunshot wound in his ankle in February and added a layer of uncertainty to his offseason.

White was walking without a limp at Mack Wilson's charity basketball game according to R.org's Kyle Odegard. The 49ers DE spoke with Odegard after the charity game and got an update on White's recovery from the gunshot wound. White said his recovery is going well, but he wouldn't commit to a specific return timeline.

"I’m just going to take everything one day at a time and see where we are,” White told Odegard. “You can’t really focus on where you’re going to be. You have to focus on where you are.”

White didn't play in the game so there's no update on how well he's moving from an athletic sense. His ongoing recovery and the fact we're still two months out from training camp gives some optimism that he'll be ready for camp. It isn't a certainty, however and the 49ers could be without their top three DEs entering camp depending on whether Nick Bosa and/or Mykel Williams will be able to participate out of the gate. White follows them on the depth chart alongside Sam Okuayinonu, Cam Sample and third-round draft pick Romello Height.

The 49ers acquired White for a sixth-round pick ahead of last year's trade deadline. White spent nine games with the 49ers and posted 1.5 sacks while spearheading their lackluster pass rush. He figures to have a more prominent impact in a lesser role on a healthy version of the 49ers defensive front this season.
