Cops swooped into a Victorian home in the downtown core to search the locale that Bailey had previously frequented. Investigators plan on searching the residence for several for days.
The 23-year-old mother of two vanished on New Year’s Day in 2022.
Foul play suspected
Police reclassified the missing persons probe as a homicide investigation three months later in March 2022.
Investigators said the young woman had an active presence on social media and was involved with her daughters’ lives. They concluded Bailey had not decided to simply vanish.
“We have new information that led us to the address on Stinson,” Det. Sgt. John Obrovac told t he Hamilton Spectator . “We are searching for Emily and any evidence relating to her disappearance.”
The detective told the newspaper that two tipsters provided new information. Both had “intimate knowledge surrounding the circumstances that led to Emily’s death.”
Bailey’s body has not yet been found, nor has a murder weapon.
Prior to her disappearance, Bailey lived with boyfriend Jeff Johnson on Weir St. N. in the city’s east end. The young mother was last seen leaving the home on New Year’s Day. Her destination was unknown.
Connection with dark pickup
Johnson’s brother Dean reportedly lives in the Stinson street home. Jeff Johnson had been serving a two-year sentence in a federal prison for theft and breaking and entering. He is currently on day parole.
As reported by the Toronto Sun , before her disappearance, Bailey had a “connection or association” with a dark GMC or Chevy pickup in the week before she vanished.
“We believe events surrounding her disappearance have indicated the possibility of foul play,” Det. Sgt. Jim Callender told reporters in 2022.
“Some of those people may have more information they haven’t shared, and there are probably some people who have never come forward to police, some people who have been hesitant to divulge what they know.”
The crack detective added: “There were indications she was headed to a friend’s house, although that never occurred. There is no information to suggest she’s left Hamilton.”
Cops described Bailey as “outgoing and devoted to her daughters, disappearing without any contact is unusual for the woman.”
Emily Bailey is 5 foot 4 with a slim build, weighing about 100 pounds. When she vanished, she had shoulder-length dark brown hair with dyed blue or green highlights. She has several tattoos, including an elephant on her left forearm and a Batman symbol on the outside of her right forearm.
