The Toronto Blue Jays, believe it or not, have surprisingly been able to tread water this season and stay around the .500 plateau in a weak American League. Just about every starter from last year's World Series run (except Kevin Gausman) came into this season with some sort of ailment, and several arms remain sidelined on the Injured List, which brings up the question of who/what the Blue Jays will target at the MLB trade deadline, which is just over two months away.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller recently predicted that Minnesota Twins' starter Joe Ryan is the most likely right-handed pitcher to be traded this cycle:

"And if they do end up selling at the deadline for a second consecutive summer, there's little question that Ryan is their biggest trade chip liable to spark a bidding war."

Again, the American League is weak this year, so several teams believe they have a shot at the MLB playoffs. However, the Toronto Blue Jays must consider putting together a strong enough trade package to land Joe Ryan.

Blue Jays urged to trade for Joe Ryan

MLB Analyst Ben Verlander recently came out with an Instagram post that features 'Ben Verlander's 5 moves to make', and the Blue Jays are featured in the post making a trade with the Twins for Joe Ryan.

HeavySports.com writer AJ Stone also writes:

"Ryan, 29, is having another great year after his first All-Star selection last season. Through 12 games started, the right-hander owns a 2.94 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 144. As of now, he’s en route to back-to-back midsummer classics."

The Blue Jays pitchers have dealt with injuries left and right, testing the team's depth. Adding a healthy, proven starter like Ryan gives them another strong arm to lean on during a playoff push, which the Blue Jays are certainly expected to make.
