Buffalo Bills trade of DJ Moore not off to greatest start early

The NFL saw several notable offseason trades this year, and teams are now getting their first extended look at new acquisitions during voluntary spring workouts. OTAs give coaches an opportunity to evaluate their rosters and make adjustments before training camp. One player drawing plenty of attention is Buffalo Bills wide receiver DJ Moore, who arrived with high expectations after an offseason trade.

The Bills traded a second-round pick to acquire Moore, signaling their strong belief in the former Chicago Bears playmaker. However, the transition has not been entirely seamless. According to a recent report, Moore is experiencing some growing pains as he adapts to Buffalo’s offense.

There is still plenty of time for Moore to find his rhythm. However, Bills fans likely would have preferred to see him get off to a faster start rather than endure some reported early ups and downs.

“I mean, it’s gonna be perfect later on, but right now it’s still growing pains.” Moore told reporters after OTAs.

Moore makes a fair point. Learning a new offensive system and building chemistry with teammates takes time, especially during the early stages of offseason workouts.

Quarterback isn’t too worried

Quarterback Josh Allen also addressed the situation and offered praise for Moore. Allen did not appear concerned about the slow start Moore alluded to.

“Obviously, again, we go out there, we make mistakes — which is going to happen. Chalk it up to the first couple days of OTAs and be like, hey, we like this, we don’t like this,” Allen told reporters.

“Again, just continue to work on it and find ways that we can learn how to complement each other and just build that chemistry and camaraderie.”

Moore has dealt with significant quarterback instability throughout much of his NFL career. Things looked promising early on, but Cam Newton suffered a career-altering shoulder injury during Moore’s rookie season. Since then, consistent quarterback play has been difficult to find. It was not until his time with the Bears that he began developing stability alongside Caleb Williams.

Now, Moore will catch passes from one of the best quarterbacks of his generation. If anyone can help accelerate his adjustment process and maximize his potential in Buffalo, it is Allen.

While the partnership may not have gotten off to a perfect start, there is little reason for concern. The Bills still have plenty of time to iron out the details before the regular season begins, giving fans every reason to remain optimistic.
