KVian: Anushka Gautam shines like A Star in the Sky during ISRO’s YUVIKA 2026

Anushka Gautam, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 8, R.K. Puram, New Delhi has secured national honors at the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) prestigious Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA) 2026.

"YUVIKA" is a highly competitive programme to select the high school students as "Junior Scientists" from all over India securing 1st Position with fully-funded STEM outreach initiative designed by ISRO. It's motto is "Catch Them Young". It's a two-week residential programme aimed at cultivating a robust scientific temperament in selected high school students.

In YUVIKA 2026, Anushka achieved the remarkable feat by securing 1st rank among all the selected students representing Delhi. She successfully attended the intensive program at the Regional Remote Sensing Centre (RRSC) West (ISRO) in Jodhpur, becoming a part of the historic first-ever batch to be trained at this specific Centre.

The curriculum featured hands-on aerospace training, where students learned the physics of rocket propulsion, space technology and aeronautics. Moving beyond textbooks, students also built physical models of rovers, landers and rockets.

Converting theory into practical, a model rocket made by Anushka was launched during the program which covered nearly 10 meters height and also covered a staggering distance of nearly 300 meters.

She also witnessed Sky Gazing conducted by Indian Space Agency Team where she identified and spotted various stars and constellations like "ursa major", "bee hive" etc using a planetosphere. Moreover she also saw various planets like Jupiter, Venus using telescope.

During the YUVIKA programme, she has also made her school and family proud with her stellar achievements .

As part of the curriculum, a highly competitive "Geospatial Challenges" team competition was conducted at the center. She was selected as the "Team Leader" of her team. Her leadership skills and excellent teamwork led to secure "First Position" along with a "Gold Medal" in the "Geospatial Challenges" Team Competition. She was also Honored as the "Winner" of the "Space Science and Technology Quiz" competition.

Reflecting on her journey Anushka said, "Gaining the experience of a Junior Scientist at the ISRO Centre was like a dream come true."

With deep gratitude, Anushka credited her double victory to Varun Mitra the Deputy Commissioner of KV , DELHI region, Ghanshyam Pandey, the Assistant Commissioner of KV, Delhi Region, Rabindra Kumar, Principal KV, Sector 8, RK Puram, New Delhi and all her school team. She noted that their unwavering mentorship, constant encouragement and motivation were instrumental in pushing her to achieve this national milestone.
