The No. 2 Berries (27-1) face No. 10 Hanover Central (23-6) in the 11 a.m. semifinal.
In the MaxPreps Computer Rankings, Logansport is ranked second behind only New Palestine, which is competing in the Southern Semi-State on Saturday.
Hanover Central recently leapfrogged Yorktown as the No. 4 ranked team on MaxPreps, so it appears the Berries have another difficult matchup on their hands.
Hanover Central sophomore ace Jillian DeYoung is 18-4 with a 1.35 ERA. She has struck out 224 and walked 40 in 130 innings pitched. She pitched a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in a 5-0 regional win over Griffith.
The Wildcats are led offensively by Jacksonville State recruit Sienna Stilley, who is hitting .476 with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. They average 8.0 runs per game and unlike Yorktown have a stronger strength of schedule than Logansport, but all three are fairly close according to MaxPreps.
The Berries just faced one of the best sophomore pitchers in the state in Yorktown’s Olivia Jones, so maybe that’ll help them on Saturday. They scored just one run and that’s all they needed, but they left some ducks on the pond. They are still averaging 8.1 runs per game.
Their starting lineup includes senior shortstop Aracyn Good (.326, 1 HR, 31 R) batting leadoff, followed by senior center fielder Adrienne Scott (.413, 4 HR, 35 R), sophomore third baseman Gracie Risley (.438, 6 HRs, 24 RBIs), junior pitcher Brooklynn Hagerty (.382, 12 HRs, 46 RBIs), junior catcher Bella Nicoles (.316, 11 2Bs, 11 RBIs), junior second baseman Kate Spradling (.324, 17 R), junior first baseman Evie Kitchel (.459, 1 HR, 20 RBIs), senior designated player Tatianna Jones (.326, 11 RBIs) and senior left fielder Teagan Wolf (.197, 12 R). Junior Amilia Zaragoza is the starting right fielder.
Texas-bound Hagerty is 17-0 with a 0.67 ERA on the season. The junior right-hander has fanned 265 and walked nine in 126 innings pitched. She one-hit Yorktown in the 1-0 win. She’s 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the tournament and hasn’t allowed an earned run in her last seven starts.
The 1 p.m. semifinal has John Glenn (21-9) going up against East Noble (22-3). Both are unranked in the final coaches’ poll. Glenn is ranked 30th and East Noble is ranked 10th on MaxPreps.
