Rail Wheel Factory has achieved significant milestones in the field of sustainability and environmental conservation through a series of innovative and eco-friendly initiatives undertaken across the factory premises. These measures reflect RWF’s continuous commitment towards energy efficiency, resource conservation and environmental protection in line with national sustainability goals.
Among the major initiatives, RWF has successfully implemented sand reclamation processes, contributing towards conservation of natural resources. Conversion of oil-fired furnaces and LPG-based scrap cutting systems to PNG has resulted in reduction of specific greenhouse gas emissions, thereby promoting cleaner industrial operations.
To address water sustainability, rainwater harvesting systems have been developed, helping the factory move towards self-sustenance in process water demand. Energy conservation measures including installation of 100% LED fittings, solar-powered pipelines and streetlights have considerably enhanced energy efficiency across the campus.
RWF has also expanded the use of renewable energy through installation of 2 MW rooftop solar systems and solar-powered office infrastructure, enabling approximately 25% of the overall energy demand to be met through renewable sources.
Further strengthening operational efficiency, implementation of power factor improvement, PLC systems and various process efficiency measures has enabled energy-efficient steel melting operations aligned with global standards under EU-530 norms, achieving 540 kWh/MT energy consumption levels.
In a major environmental initiative, RWF has developed a Miyawaki Forest with nearly 35,000 saplings, contributing towards carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement and creation of a greener ecosystem within the factory premises.
These initiatives reaffirm Rail Wheel Factory’s dedication towards sustainable industrial development and environmental responsibility while contributing to the vision of Green Railways and a cleaner future.
