Young 49ers receiver has impressed Mike Evans already

The San Francisco 49ers struggled to find consistency at wide receiver last year, with Brandon Aiyuk missing the season, Demarcus Robinson suspended for the first few games and others battling injuries.

That's why San Francisco went out and signed both Mike Evans and Christian Kirk in free agency and used their top draft pick on Ole Miss' De'Zhaun Stribling.

While those three could play a huge role in the offense in 2026, Evans, who is by far the most accomplished in the room, seems to be impressed by 2024 fourth-round pick Jacob Cowing.

“He has a lot of juice,” Evans said of Cowing in a recent media availability. “He can add a lot to this team. The speed down the field, the quickness. I’ve been here a few weeks, and he’s made a lot of plays so far.”

Cowing played collegiately at UTEP and Arizona, earning All-Conference honors twice in five years. As a rookie with the 49ers, he appeared in 15 games and caught four passes for 80 yards while serving as the team's primary kick and punt returner.

After suffering a hamstring injury in preseason, Cowing missed the entire season. If he can make an impact in 2026, that would be huge.
