The Dodgers last lost a series against the Atlanta Braves last month, losing the final two games of a home set after winning the first game. They won seven of their previous nine series, tying the other two in four-game sets.

Emmet Sheehan started for the Dodgers, and had a strong outing before a rough sixth inning took him out of the game. He finished his afternoon with five innings pitched and eight strikeouts, though was credited with three earned runs.

Neither team managed much traffic on the basepaths for the next several innings, though the Dodgers threatened in the fifth and sixth with a couple runners on.

The White Sox capitalized on the Dodgers’ poor offensive showing in the sixth inning, finally getting to Sheehan. The right-hander allowed a solo home run against the first batter he saw in the sixth inning, and the White Sox took the lead two batters later after a single and a double.

Jack Dreyer came in to reliever Sheehan after the second run crossed, but he allowed a homer of his own as Chicago took a 4-1 lead. They didn’t stop there, hitting yet another homer two batters later to take a five run elad in the bottom of the sixth.

The Dodgers slowly mounted a comeback, scoring in both of the following inning with a sacrifice fly and a solo homer off the bat of Mookie Betts, then had an encouraging ninth-inning rally.

Ryan Ward kicked the frame off with a walk, and Alex Freeland doubled to score the left fielder immediately after. White Sox closer Seranthony Dominguez pitched around Shohei Ohtani after the lineup turned over, walking him to bring the go-ahead run to the plate.

Andy Pages hit into a fielder’s choice afterwards, putting Freeland on third, but Freeman struck out and the Dodgers went down.
