One of the best series of the 2026 Playoffs was the Western Conference Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs. It was quite competitive, as it went a full seven games, but there were some controversial moments throughout the series.
This included when backup big men Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo committed some gnarly fouls against Jared McCain. It was revealed that Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama told them to commit some hard fouls during garbage time of Game 5.

In one of the most physical series in recent memory, the Thunder and Spurs kept getting into it. Isaiah Hartenstein, in particular, became infamous for his physical play in the paint against Wembanyama.
This led to the Spurs' giant retaliating because he did not want the Thunder to keep taking advantage of their physicality. This led to constant moments throughout the series, including when Wembanyama was caught on camera instructing his teammates to commit hard fouls.

It seems McCain took it in stride because it is normal in high-pressure basketball. Sending messages through hard fouls often works, but it seems McCain did not have much of an issue with it, enough to make fun of it afterwards.
"I was gonna ask for Wemby's jersey, but now he sent a hit out on me, now I can't," McCain said in his latest vlog on YouTube.
Despite McCain seemingly moving on from it, that moment would still be one of the biggest motivators for the Thunder in the 2026-27 season. They want to be a successful team again, which will require them to beat the team that ended their title defense prematurely.
