South Bay Lakers recap: G League Lakers slide past Santa Cruz

With the G League regular season starting to wind down, the South Bay Lakers are peaking at the right time. They entered Friday's game against the Santa Cruz Warriors in Northern California with a seven-game winning streak, and they have been in a terrific offensive rhythm of late.
Santa Cruz took an early 15-5 lead in this game, but the Lakers started to get rolling afterward and ended the first quarter ahead 34-31. The Lakers were up 70-54 at halftime, and they built a lead that got as large as 32 points in the third quarter. Santa Cruz never mounted a real rally afterward, and the Lakers came out on top, 131-110, for their eighth win in a row.

Guard R.J. Davis hit six 3-pointers in 10 attempts, allowing him to score 30 points, and Nick Smith Jr. also led the offense with 22 points on 9-of-15 field-goal shooting and eight assists. Forward Anton Watson also dished off eight assists, to go along with 14 points, and center Malik Williams turned in 24 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block.
This victory moved South Bay into second place in the Western Conference with an 18-8 record, and the team is half a game behind the first-place Mexico City Capitanes.
