On Sunday, it was reported that the Boston College men’s basketball program is terminating the contract of head coach Earl Grant after five seasons.

The 2025-26 season was the worst of Grant’s tenure, with the Eagles posting a 10-20 overall record and missing the ACC tournament. BC’s offense was particularly dreadful, scoring only 67 points per game which was 343rd of 365 teams in Division I. The Eagles defense had usually been a solid unit under his leadership, but that poor execution on offense has been a long-running issue for his teams and was ultimately his undoing. BC constantly went on minutes-long scoreless streaks that lost them games to opponents of high and low quality.

The highlight of the past five seasons was the 2023-24 squad that featured Quinten Post, Claudell Harris, and Jaeden Zackery. That team went 20-16 and made a run to the ACC quarterfinals by upsetting Miami and Clemson before eventually falling to UVA in overtime, eventually ending their season in the 2nd round of the NIT. Quinten Post went on to be a quality NBA role player, but otherwise it’s hard to say where exactly Grant found success in his player development. He was never able to captialize on the success of that season and instead the roster fell apart immediately afterwards.
