TOP FIVE COUNTRIES HEADHUNTING SOUTH AFRICANS
As such, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Holland, Namibia and Botswana are aggressively headhunting South Africans. Of these, Australia is the leading destination actively targeting the country. Next is Saudi Arabia, followed by Holland, and our two closest neighbors, Namibia and Botswana.
“This data signals a competitive cross-border talent landscape,” says Pnet’s Head of Data, Anja Bates. As ever, employers love headhunting South Africans for reasons other than their education and skill set. The South African has reported previously how a hard-working nature and ability to work in ethnically diverse groups makes South Africans ideal employees.
HIGHLY SKILLED, WORK FOR LESS
One of South Africa’s great advantages globally is our ability to work amongst multiracial and ethnically diverse teams, says Pnet. Image: FilePlus, Bates explained that South Africa generates world-class talent, particularly in the fields of engineering, mining, operational, IT and finance. This is attractive to international employers because even a top-paying professional’s salary to a South African is relatively affordable by first-world standards.
Moreover, in the last year, Pnet revealed an even bigger shift in foreign hiring growth. While not the highest in total uptake, Saudi Arabia’s job ads targeting South Africans increased by 174% year-on-year. Likewise, Holland’s grew by 61% year-on-year.
WHICH EMPLOYERS ARE HEADHUNTING SOUTH AFRICANS?
Australian employers are recruiting technical trade and engineering professionals, particularly for maintenance, construction, plumbing and electrical roles. Pnet explains this is driven by chronic skills shortages and infrastructure expansion Down Under. Likewise, South African trade qualifications are well aligned with Australian standards.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is recruiting heavily in engineering and healthcare sectors as it accelerates its Vision 2030 agenda. Better still, tax-advantaged compensation packages with structured relocation benefits make these roles highly attractive to more and more young South African professionals.
