Former Bengals explain why they joined Lou Anarumo on Colts

Trey Hendrickson was the popular theory when it came to former Cincinnati Bengals players who might next go link up with Lou Anarumo on the Indianapolis Colts.

Instead, Hendrickson went to join the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. The honor has gone to two other former Bengals players:

Akeem Davis-Gaither and Cam Taylor-Britt.

Davis-Gaither, a fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2020, carved out a nice special teams and niche defensive role for himself in Cincinnati before going to play in Arizona last year.

Now, he’s back seeking a reunion with Anarumo, as he told Amanda Foster of Colts.com:

"I built up a great relationship with Lou when I spent time with him in Cincinnati. I have a relationship with him, I trust him, I trust his system, I trust in his ability to call a good defense. So I mean, it made it easy to want to be here, play under his play calling. And then just the organization, the owners have a great history. Heard a lot of great things about the organization from former players and current players. It was a no-brainer."

Taylor-Britt was a much more dramatic story. A second-round pick who flashed No. 1 cornerback upside, he fizzled out badly last season, including getting benched before a serious injury.

Now, he’s seeking redemption via reunion:

"Man, that's my dog. That's all I really say, man. I think that's one of the big reasons that I'm here. Man, we had a great relationship while I was attending the Bengals when they drafted me, and it's kind of been great ever since then. When he gave me a call and had me come up, I was very excited man. Can't wait for this opportunity."

This offseason, Davis-Gaither was worth the raise of an eyebrow as a reunion candidate for the Bengals as they seek veteran guidance for their younger players at linebacker.

Taylor-Britt, on the other hand, was never a realistic re-signing candidate for the Bengals.

Now, like Mike Hilton and Germaine Pratt before them, both guys will get a chance to recapture some of the past magic they found with Anarumo during their Cincinnati days.
