Glover Teixeira reveals coaching Alex Pereira improved his striking
Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLCTeixeira admitted that coaching Pereira has directly influenced his own development, particularly in striking. The change came despite stepping away from active competition.
When asked by journalist Dylan Napoleon about his striking progress despite being retired, Teixeira said: “100%, man, I think so. Alex came over here when I was fighting Thiago Santos, I was already 40 years old, and I’ve played with him, I’ve said: ‘I wish I knew you when I was 30. My striking, my career level would be so much more.’”
The admission highlights how ‘Poatan’s’ striking skills are on another level. It is something that can make even experienced champions improve.

Teixeira also acknowledged that his coaching journey is still developing. He emphasised the importance of learning from his fighters rather than imposing a rigid system.
“I’m learning how to coach. I pass those things, I’m a humble guy,” he began by saying.
“I let Alex teach some techniques, or Yousri, and the next day, if they’re not here, I teach the same drill. The amateur guys are getting much better.
“We have a lot of pros right now that are promising, man. I think our team is still growing now. I’ve been coaching for three years now and I feel very happy with the success, I’m blessed.”
