Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger shares bold take on Drew Allar
· Yahoo Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and ever since, the debate has been about whether it was the right decision.
One person who isn't convinced the franchise made the right move is Pittsburgh's former star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "Big Ben" terrorized defenses while leading the Steelers at signal caller for 18 years before retiring after the 2021 season, so he certainly knows a thing or two about playing the position at the highest level. On a recent episode of his podcast Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, he shares his thoughts on Drew Allar, and it's clear he doesn't expect the Penn State alum to pan out.

Hot damn: Big Ben says he’s “extremely nervous” about Drew Allar. Hes in disbelief that the Steelers need to teach him things quarterbacks learn in youth camps. Allar is a project that will never work. IMO. pic.twitter.com/Tdxgd34ps4

"To me when I'm watching him do like three-step drops, that makes me incredibly nervous," Roethlisberger said. "And when you say why, you're refining things – there's a difference between refining things and teaching. When we did football camps, the first thing you're teaching the youngest kids is how to do a three-step drops."
If Allar can put things together and prove Roethlisberger wrong, he still has a tough challenge ahead of him to earn the starting job, at least this year. That role seems to be reserved for Aaron Rodgers, who will reunite with his former head coach from Green Bay, Mike McCarthy. Behind him is Will Howard, who backed up Rodgers last season.
