NFL world reacts to Bears QB Caleb Williams on Madden 27 cover

· Yahoo Sports

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the Madden 27 cover athlete, EA Sports announced on Wednesday. Williams is the first Bears player to make it on a Madden cover. But considering he's already had a lot of firsts with the franchise in just two seasons, it's not a surprise, especially after he wowed the league in 2025.

There are two covers for Madden 27, the standard and deluxe editions. The standard version features Williams in his signature jump pose (made famous by his fourth-and-8 completion to Rome Odunze in a wild-card playoff win over the Green Bay Packers) above the Chicago skyline (a nod to Michael Jordan's jump man pose with the Chicago skyline). Meanwhile, the deluxe edition has him sporting his signature "Iceman" pose amid icy Soldier Field conditions, which was made famous after Williams' walk-off touchdown to DJ Moore in overtime against the Packers back in Week 16.

"When I received the call from Madden, it was like my childhood dream was coming true," Williams said, via ESPN. "Being on the cover of 'Madden NFL 27' is a full-circle moment. I grew up playing Madden and imagining what it would be like to be part of the game. I know fans are going to love what's new in this year's game, and I'm looking forward to getting my rating up to a 99 by the end of the season."

As you can imagine, there's been plenty of reaction to Williams as the cover athlete. While there's naturally some concern about the "Madden curse," most fans are just excited that a Bears athlete finally made it on the cover and that the arrow is pointed up for the franchise. There's also a clear favorite among the covers: The "Iceman."
